This is probably the best version of the song out there, except possibly 2003 live. Starts out sounding like the album cut, to the point that it seems mimed, but then the clues start to creep in...

Those are the worst crowd reaction shots ever.

This is one of the coolest songs ever, and the only appropriate soundtrack to driving a 50’s Chevrolet Impala.

I went to the Stax Records museum when I visited Memphis. It was awesome.

Also relevant:

(Booker T. and the MGs was the backing band for the whole Stax European tour in like 1967 or whenever.)

Not the best version of this song but my favorite for the “land of the chrysler 440” line.

While I like to say that my favorite bassists are Entwistle, Boz Burrell, Lemmy, John Deacon, and others, the ones that influenced my own choice of actual bass, tone, and styles I want to be proficient in more than any others are Steve Harris... and Duck Dunn.

Both of whom really defined the bass sound of their respective genres. Although, that Green Onions bass riff was Lewie Steinberg’s originally.

...and owes a lot in general to JLH’s Boom Boom, which is why I posted this after a version of that.
